Mr. Clapp is the Managing Partner of Arctaris Capital Partners which provides an unusual royalty-based, non-dilutive financing to expansion stage companies in the northeast.

Previously he was a founding partner of Brook Venture Fund, whose most recent fund was a $100M sub-debt fund. Prior to Brook, Mr. Clapp was a managing director at Shields & Company, and for seven years before that he was a Partner at Downer & Company, a transatlantic investment-banking firm with offices in Boston and Paris, where he launched the firm?s highly successful sell-side practice. While at Downer he also completed a number of private placements on behalf of early stage companies.

Prior to Downer Mr. Clapp was President of Equifax Research, a division of Equifax, Inc. and before that he was Manager of the Corporate Development Unit at Arthur D. Little, Inc., which was then the largest consulting firm in the world. While at ADL, Equifax and Downer, Mr. Clapp launched, managed and oversaw a family of merger & acquisition related publications and directories which were sold to Securities Data Company, a division of Thompson Group, which continues to publish some of them today.

Mr. Clapp has led or participated in numerous seminars on venture capital, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance and valuation, and has written a number of articles including The Perfect Executive Summary, which is popular with entrepreneurs and with business school classes. He speaks regularly and participates in programs before classes or groups at Boston University?s graduate school of management, Boston College, Bentley College, Harvard University, MIT, and Tuck School at Dartmouth.

Mr. Clapp is a graduate of Clarkson University where he received a B.S. and from Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College where he received his MBA.

Mr. Clapp is a director of Hamilton Thorne Biosciences, Inc., and was formerly a Director of Texterity, Inc., Affordable Interior Systems, Inc., Wandrian, Inc., Bioscan, Inc., iMakeNews, Lexington Software, and was an observer on the boards of Laser Projection Technologies, Inc., Union Biometrica, and PointCare. He has been a Director of the New England Venture Capital Association and in 1978 he founded the Boston chapter for the Association for Corporate Growth, which is currently the nation?s largest chapter. He has two grown children, lives in Ipswich, MA with his wife Jean, and spends time in the Adirondacks and Vermont.
