Mr. Clapp is a Founding Partner of Brook Venture Partners, which manages Brook Venture Fund I and II, plus 10 co-investment limited partnerships. The fund makes sub-$5 million investments in expansion stage companies within the information technology and medical technology fields, located in the northeast.

Prior to Brook, Mr. Clapp was a managing director at Shields & Company, a Boston-based investment-banking firm where he completed a number of transactions. For seven years before that he was a Partner at Downer & Company, a transatlantic investment-banking firm with offices in Boston and Paris, where he launched the firm?s highly successful sell-side practice. While at Downer he also completed a number of private placements on behalf of early stage companies.

Prior to Downer Mr. Clapp was President of Equifax Research, a division of Equifax, Inc. where his group completed a number of acquisitions for the parent company as well as conducted corporate and business unit strategy planning and product development. His joining Equifax evolved from his having led a number of consulting engagements on their behalf while he was Manager of the Corporate Development Unit at Arthur D. Little, Inc., which was then the largest consulting firm in the world. While at ADL Mr. Clapp advised U.S. and European companies seeking to acquire firms or diversify their businesses.

In addition to his work at ADL, Equifax and Downer, Mr. Clapp concurrently managed and oversaw a family of merger & acquisition related publications and directories from 1977 to 1989. In 1989 Mr. Clapp sold these publications to Securities Data Company, a division of Thompson Group, which continues to publish some of them today.

For 6 years prior to joining Arthur D. Little, Mr. Clapp founded and ran an investment banking and consulting firm, Cambridge Corporation. Prior to that and following graduation from Business School, he was Manager of Finance at Polhemus Navigation Sciences; Manager of Real Estate & Development at Sherburne Corporation; and was in the Manufacturing Management Program at General Electric Company?s Aircraft Engine Group in Lynn, MA.

Mr. Clapp has led or participated in more than five dozen seminars on venture capital, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance and valuation, and has written a number of articles, some of which appear on Brook Fund?s website. He also speaks regularly and participates in programs before classes or groups at Boston University?s graduate school of management, Bentley College, Harvard University, MIT, and Tuck School at Dartmouth.

Mr. Clapp is a 1966 graduate of Clarkson University where he received a B.S. He received his M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College in 1968.

Mr. Clapp is a Director of Texterity, Inc., and Affordable Interior Systems, Inc., Wandrian, Inc., Bioscan, Inc., Hamilton Thorne Biosciences, Inc., and is an observer of the board of iMakeNews and Laser Projection Technologies, Inc. He was a Director of the New England Venture Capital Association. In 1978 he founded the Boston chapter for the Association for Corporate Growth, which is currently the nation?s largest chapter. He has served as a trustee of the Aloha Foundation and the Essex County Greenbelt. He has two grown children, lives in Ipswich, MA with his wife Jean, and spends time in the Adirondacks and Vermont.
