Peter Thiel President of Clarium, Co-Founder of PayPal Peter Thiel serves as the President of Clarium and as a Managing Partner of the Founders Fund, two American investment firms. Previously, Mr. Thiel was the Chairman and CEO of PayPal, an Internet company he co-founded in 1998 that eBay acquired in 2002 for $1.5 billion. Prior to founding PayPal, he ran Thiel Capital Management LLC, the Menlo Park-based predecessor to Clarium, which he started in the fall of 1996. Mr. Thiel serves as the Chairman of the Board of Palantir Technologies. He was the founding investor in Facebook and sits on its board of directors. Mr. Thiel?s many technology start-up investments also include LinkedIn, Slide, SpaceX, Yammer, and Yelp.
Mr. Thiel is active in a variety of philanthropic, academic, and cultural pursuits. He serves as a primary supporter of the Committee to Protect Journalists which promotes press freedom worldwide; the Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence; and the Methuselah Foundation which is a medical charity dedicated to extending healthy human life. Mr. Thiel sits on the Board of Overseers of the Hoover Institution, and has taught ?Globalization, Sovereignty & Technological Change? at Stanford Law School. He executive produced the film ?Thank You for Smoking? based on the novel by Christopher Buckley. Mr. Thiel has a USCF chess rating of around 2300.
The World Economic Forum has honored Mr. Thiel as a Young Global Leader to recognize the world's 250 most distinguished leaders age 40 and under, and BusinessWeek recently named him one of the 25 most influential people on the web. Mr. Thiel received a BA in Philosophy from Stanford University and a JD from Stanford Law School.
